About this collection

Billy Graham was no stranger to Jesse Helms, even before Helms was a Senator. Obviously, Jesse heard of "America's Pastor" long before being elected to the Senate and the two already formed a relationship before Helms decided to run in 1972.

They shared a life long friendship highlighted throughout this collection of correspondance. From Graham's crusades to Helms' achievements in Washington, these men always took the time to write one another and pray on the others behalf. In fact, Graham was one of the first to congratulate Helms on his first electoral win in 1972. They discussed foreign and domestic issues or just took the time to send a note of congratulations.

Highlights from this collection include photographs from a visit Jesse and Dot Helms made to Billy and Ruth Graham's house in Montreat, NC during Helms' 1972 Senate campaign and photographs from the opening of the Ruth Billy Graham Children's Health Center in Asheville, NC.
